FRIDAY'S FEAST OF FUN AND FROLICS

Confused? Don't worry - here are the selected highlights of Friday's performance day to whet your appetite for the day ahead! The day kicks off with a house period in which you will review your fav parts of the week. But it is the next four periods which will be 'a feast of fun and frolics', according to Mr. Holroyd. He should know as his brother is a session musican playing in one of the bands. Keep your peepers peeled for any family resemblance! He continues 'We will enjoy four hours of high quality, professional entertainment.' The day will include a variety of performances including contemporary music from "High Life", who in the late 70's were musicians in the hit pop group Osibisa. Mr. Herd, our local 70's music guru, raved about their hit "Sunshine Day" .'Great tune!' he said and promptly burst into song! A theatre group known as "33 skins" will be offering an enticing and stimulating performance depicting racism and its effects. Several musicians will be performing West African Music. Rubba will be strutting his stuff, whereas others will be entranced by Zinga, our resident storyteller. We tried to find out more but all Mr. Holroyd would say is, 'I've got to go now, I've got to make a Hippopotamus out of eighty year eight students!'

Cheetah Sighted in School!

Over the past four days, year 8 pupils have been causing a storm since a group of wild, untamed African animals have been released around the school. Although only made from wood, year 7 and 9 pupils have been outraged, and feel immensely jealous of the year 8's artistic ability.

The response towards the animals has been very positive. Mathew Strange, year 9, stated that they look incredibly effective and really helped the school to get into the spirit of the African theme. We have good news for those of you who like the animals - they are protected from the weather so they are here to stay! A powerful tribute to Africa's most potent colours.

'Long live the animals!

MRS MELVILLE'S MARVELLOUS ADVENTURES

Who would have thought that the quiet, friendly maths teacher Mrs Melville could have been held at gunpoint and narrowly miss an attack from a deadly snake! All of these adventures happened in Zambia. One night when crossing the border into the Congo, she got more than bargained for when she came across a police road block. As she got  of the car to ask for directions, the police approached her and attempted to rob her of her money whilst holding her at gun point! She said, "It was a very frightening ex perience!"

Mrs Melville's adventures didn't stop there. When preparing the evening meal she reached into the potato sack only to see something move inside! Calling for the garden boy they tipped the potatoes out onto the doorstep only to find a deadly snake! It had just shed its skin, (the most vulnerable time for a snake!) Luckily for Mrs Melville and Theale Green she managed to escape this second peril.

Mr Bradley one of the newest additions to the Technology department had a close encounter with a charging rhino, hungry lions and falling trees when he visited Kenya! But he still managed to retain a love of Africa stating that, "It's brilliant, I would recommend it to anyone, the younger the better."
