Students who opt to take Drama at a higher level will find themselves challenged and enlightened by the different forms and skills that they are introduced to. Students will perform in plays from different cultures and time periods. Students will be given opportunities to experience live theatre both as members of an audience and through working with visiting professionals.

GCSE Curriculum

How the Course works

The different elements of GCSE Drama are centred on your own experiences of performance as an actor, director, designer and member of an audience.

GCSE Drama (AQA Specification) is divided into two parts:

1. Practical assessment 60%

2. Written examination 40%

Practical Assessment (Performance)

Each term the students will prepare, create and produce a performance. The work will be assessed in two ways:

1. Process and understanding of skills development

2. Final presentation: either performance or demonstration/artefact(s)

Written Examination (1½ hour paper)

The written exam, like every other part of the course, is centred on performance. Students are required to answer any two questions from a choice of questions based on the areas of study listed below:

A – Practical work completed during the course

B – Study and performance of a scripted play

C – Study of a live theatre production seen

 

Throughout the course you will watch various productions that you will review in preparation for this examination.
