Students are taught in mixed ability groups, and follow the AQA specification. The course combines the three aspects of dance Performance, Choreography and Appreciation. With an emphasis on practical work, students are awarded 20% of their final grade on theoretical knowledge and understanding.
Students develop a deeper appreciation of how demanding physically and mentally dance is. They extend on their levels of commitment, self-discipline and professionalism. They are expected to rehearse in their own lunchtimes and after school and lead groups of varying size in choreographic and performance work.
Students are expected to have one proper dance outfit, which is tight fitting and black.
The course is assessed as follows:
Performance of Set Study (20%)
Performance in a Group (20%)
Choreography Solo of group / Programme Note (30%) / (10%)
