AS and A2 dance aims to develop and extend knowledge, understanding and skills needed to participate in, and communicate through dance in a variety of contexts. There is a shift in the amount of practical work studied, as the course is 60% theoretical. Both AS and A2 are assessed through three units.
Unit 1 – Solo Choreography and performance
Unit 2 – Analysis and Recording: Choreographic essay; coursework
Unit 3 – Understanding Dance: 2 hour written exam
Unit 4 – Group Choreography
Unit 5 – Performance Set Dance and Unseen Notation Score
Unit 6 – Appreciation, Content and Context – 3 hour written exam
Students are expected to have black leotard and tights for practical lessons and the exam/performances.
