COMPULSORY ICT DRAMA HOMEWORK TASK

DESIGN A POSTER OR PROGRAMME FOR A PLAY

Choose ONE of the following 2 tasks:

POSTER

How does a company entice people to buy their product? Think back to your MEDIA unit... they use advertising. This can come in the form of TV commercials, magazines adverts and POSTERS on billboards. Often these adverts are eyecatching and colourful.

You are to imagine that you are putting on a production of a play - it can be one of the two you have studied in school, an imaginary one, or a play that you have seen with your family or friends - you need to get people interested in your play by creating a poster.

The poster should include images of the THEMES that are in the play, and maybe a couple of the main, or most important, CHARACTERS. You must also include the following information in some way:

Title of Play, playwrights name, Price, Dates, Venue, (place the play will be performed.)

You should try to design your poster using the computer, but if you have limited access to one then you may use paper and had it to your teacher. If you use IT then email your work to your teacher

Below are some links to some examples of film and theatre promotional posters

PROGRAMME

When you go to the theatre to watch a performance you will be offered, for a price, a PROGRAMME. This is a booklet which tells you about the play you are about to see, the actors, the playwright and all the people who have worked back stage to ensure the play goes without a hitch, (sound man, set designer, front of house manager, costume designer and carpenters.)

You should design a 4- page programme either introducing one of your class plays, an imaginary one, or a play that you have seen with your family.

You should use an IT package and design your programme so that it would be A5 size, (A4 on landscape in two columns would make this quite easy) You could insert Clip Art or design your own images in Paintshop. Make you programme exciting to look at and interesting to read.

Front page - An eye-catching front cover with the play title and the theatre in which it is being performed (e.g. 'The Royal')

Page 1 - Introduction of characters and actors playing them, (you could use celebrities if you wish.) You could add photos as well to make it look even more professional!

Page 2 - Introduce the PLOT of the play - should be at least couple of paragraphs long. Don't forget to make it pleasing to look at!

Page 3 - Introduce the PLAYWRIGHT, a little about his life and the history/ moral of the play

Page 4 - A short history of the THEATRE; include location and you could even make up an interesting little story about something that happened there once

You should try to design your programme using the computer, but if you have limited access to one then you may use paper and had it to your teacher. If you use IT then email your work to your teacher
