Each class studies aspects of plot and character whilst experiencing a class reader. The department has a wide variety of novels specifically aimed at Year 7 students. They deal with a spectrum of issues and themes which are relevant to young people of this age group; adhering to the National Curriculum requirements of pastoral, social and spiritual guidance.
Following is an example of some of the novels:
A Little Lower Than The Angels is a wonderful story of Gabriel, who, having been sold as an apprentice to a Stone Mason, develops from a naive boy to a caring, thoughtful young man. The well developed characters allow the students the opportunity to explore their own opinions.
Boy by Roald Dahl is the semi autobiographical novel of the famous author. Written with a delightful humour this text allows the students to explore their own experiences with a greater sense of creativity.
