GUIDELINES FOR WRITTEN WORK

You will be writing in a variety of different ways during your English course at Theale Green – making notes in your English book, preparing a first draft of a piece of work and redrafting work into neat either on A4 paper or on a PC if you prefer. Whatever you are doing, written work should always represent your personal best.

Presentation of each piece of written work is very important. Read the following guidelines for presentation carefully and follow them at all times when you are preparing written work. Remember that they have been set to improve the presentation of your work and to encourage you to have a pride in what you write.

Seven Rules for Written Work

  1. All written work must be done in blue or black ink. Pencils and felt tip pens are not suitable.
  2. Each piece of written work must have a title, underlined in pencil or in a different coloured ink.
  3. Each piece of work must have a date underlined and written in full (e.g. 10th September).
  4. Each piece of written work must be marked either c/w (classwork) or h/w (homework). If you are continuing a piece of work for homework, be sure to mark h/w in the margin where you begin at home.
  5. All written work must be correctly paragraphed.
  6. When the teacher has marked your book, each piece of written work must be ruled off in pencil below the teacher’s comment before the next piece of work is started.
  7. Always start a fresh page if you have less than half a side of paper after your last piece of work.

Please follow these guidelines at all times and make sure that each completed piece of work represents your personal best. If a piece of writing falls short of your best, you may be asked by your teacher to complete it again.
