Welcome to the Theale Green Community
School Nepal Trip 2000 web site.
The following was reported on the
school web site earlier this year:
"This summer will see 14 sixth
formers and four members of staff head off to the beautiful Himalayas to visit Nepal. The
four week trip is mainly aimed at visiting Theale Greens link school in Nepal, the
Purnamrit Secondary School, which is situated in a very isolated part of the country. The
group hope to take out much needed equipment for a new Science laboratory which Theale
Green students will raise the money for and will donate. The students will also see how
different and difficult learning is in a country with far fewer resources. They are very
keen to learn about the country and the school and will be walking for several hours just
to reach it!

Leader of the expedition is Theale
Green Science teacher Mr. Andrew Webster, who spent most of his summer 1999 visiting the
area and the school to assess the sort of help that is needed and how Theale Green
students can contribute.
In March 1998,Theale Green Community School was visited by the Headteacher at the Purnamrit School, Mr.
Paudayal, who came to tell the students what life is like in his country.
It was from that visit that Mr. Webster first developed his idea to help.
However, the trip will not all be work! The group will undertake a mountain flight and a
nine-day trek up in the Annapurna mountains to visit the holy place of Muktinath, as well
as white water rafting and elephant rides in a wildlife park!"
