Young Chef Award 2000 Theale Green Community School Heats.
The competition got hotter and the temperature
rose in the kitchens of Theale Green Winner in the 11-14 Year old category was Stacey Delve with her helper Gemma Codling. Stacey chose the schools PE teacher, Mr. Randle as the celebrity she would most like to eat the two-course celebration meal she prepared. Jilly Goolden from BBC2’s Food And Drink programme was the celebrity chosen by winner of the 15-18 year old category Emma Thompson and her helper Lisa Stubbs. Tony Cordell, head chef from Reading’s Renaissance Hotel joined the judging panel and in announcing the winners, he said, "The standard was exceptional and all the students deserve high praise." Commenting on two teams of 11 year old boys he said, ‘Their enjoyment in cooking came through and I can see them presenting strong competition in the years ahead." The contest culminates in a final cook-off event at Reading College and School of Arts and Design on 7th March, when celebrated chef and proprietor of L'Ortolan, John Burton-Race and Jessica Cecil of the Upcross Hotel join the judges. Also sponsoring the competition is Broad Street Mall, Douglas the Jewellers, Eurest, Forest Personnel, Lancaster Jaguar and Waitrose.
