Piper year 6 students have had two induction times at Theale Green Community School: a fun sports afternoon and an induction morning at Theale Green. The Fun Sports afternoon was organised and run by the sixth form and all the year sixes had a great time playing a variety of frantic games. The second induction time included a quiz, which amongst other things, asked them to make up a motto for Piper House (results to be announced later), and incorporated a tour of the school by the sixth form. This was followed by an English and Art lesson. The group that I took for pastel drawing certainly seemed to enjoy themselves and they were all looking forward to September. At break we had squash, crisps and biscuits in the hall and the answers to the quiz were announced to an excited crowd. Piper House was very impressed with our new students and we are also looking forward to them starting at Theale Green. Congratulations and thanks to all the Piper students who took part in Sports Day this year. We did not win, but came a close second to Benyon (the first time that Benyon has won in thirty years, so we cannot complain too much, can we?). Congratulations particularly to Bethany Beake who won three events on Sports Day and also ran for a charity called the ‘Imperial Cancer Research Fund’ with four thousand other women and raised over £136. Trips this term have included a junior visit to ‘Coral Reef’, enjoyed by all who came, and a Senior theatre trip to ‘Fame’ . We hope to organise more trips next term and include some different venues. Having just finished Arts Week, we would like to say a big thank you to all the Piper tutors and Piper students for their hard work and enthusiasm during Arts Week, which has made it such a roaring and creative success. With students leaving Theale Green or moving into the sixth form, the possibility of spare school uniform around your house becomes likely. If you have any usable uniform (especially ties) that you no longer need, please give it a new home in Piper House we can always make good use of it. And finally, a great big thank you to all the Piper tutors for their hard work and support this year, in particular to Sue Richards and Peter Baker, who are moving on to pastures new! Mrs C Martin The spirit of Hunt House this year can be captured in the word 'GIVING'. The pupils have worked very hard in all areas with some of the highest totals in the Merit, Credit and Commendation Competitions. Pupils across age groups have taken part in fund raising activites for the school charity. The VI Form Prefects organised competitions for all to enjoy. The members of 9HA have had an outstanding year, organising many fund raising activities, for example a sponsored swim, (Andy Callaway and Scott Murray), General Knowledge Quiz and 24 hour Fast, (Christina Clare, Zara Dean, Emma Chandler, Selina Taggar and Rachel Lownsborough). On the sporting field we did well in House Matches and came third in Sports Day. Benyon won for the first time in 30 years ! We expect to do very well in the Swimming Gala. Gary Heath, James Hearn, and Claire Stroud have been ably assisted by Paul Hakewill who will be made up to a Senior Prefect -Sports next Year. The PTA have worked on a number of projects during the Year they have already booked the famous Harrods Trip for November. The Joint PTA Quiz Evening was an outstanding success Mrs Koslicki and Mrs Legg sold lots of raffle tickets for us! This year Mr Shelley and I are both moving on to promoted posts in the school and so will be handing over Hunt House to a new team. We would like to thank all the parents of Hunt House pupils for their help and support over the years in the pastoral care of the pupils. Mrs C Shelley |
