A Letter from the Headteacher

Dear Parents

I’m writing to pass on two pieces of news before you hear about them on the notorious Theale Green grapevine!

Firstly we have heard that 5 years after the first one, our school will have its second Ofsted Inspection early in the Autumn term. This will be one of the ‘light touch’ inspections for schools already rated as ‘very good’. It will be combined with a separate inspection of the 6th form under a new set of regulations introduced from September 2001. We will be one of the first school 6th forms to be inspected this way. You will hear more about the inspection at the start of the Autumn term.

Secondly, starting after the Ofsted Inspection, our governors have agreed my secondment next year for the equivalent of 4 days a week to the Department for Education and Skills as a government Education adviser and to run a pilot project linking good practice in behaviour support units across the country. You may know that Theale Green pioneered the first such unit 6 years ago.

Mr Andrew Carter (1st Deputy Head) has been appointed acting Headteacher, Ms. Deb Heighes will becomes acting Deputy Head and Mrs Carol Shelley (Head of Hunt House) has joined the senior leadership team. I will be available to support their work for the equivalent of one day a week.

After 16 years as a Headteacher I am very much looking forward to this new challenge and hope to gain a lot of experience that will help our school on my return full time at the end of the year.

Chris Gittins
