Theale Green Knitathon!
Thirty Sixth form students from Theale Green Community School recently raised £400 for their school charity by knitting together a huge woollen blanket.
The money raised will go towards the Duchess of Kent Hospice – a centre in Reading that looks after terminally ill people. An amount will also go towards supporting a school trip out to Nepal this summer to deliver science equipment to a partner school there.
The raising of money for the Duchess of Kent Hospice has a particular significance for one sixth former – Louise Roberts – whose mother was cared for there in the latter stages of her terminal illness. It was Louise and the then Head girl Katie Colley who organised the whole event and saw to it that everyone one of the thirty students had completed their square of knitting at the end of a long but very worthwhile day.
Wool for the event was kindly donated by Jacksons of Reading
