YOUNG ENTERPRISE: TYE 21

Before the Christmas holidays, TYE 21 managed to sell products at events such as the Pensioners’ Party and Christmas Concert. During the week leading up to the holidays, the company were selling products each lunchtime break. The products that attracted customers and brought in most of the revenue over this period were the seasonal cards and the various types of jewellery (including earrings and necklaces). The diaries for 2005 were also good sellers, close behind the other two products, undercutting prices of high street stores such as W H Smith.

TYE 21 is now putting plans into action for a completely revolutionary product, which varies from the existing products the company has offered and will come in the form of a service. If it is approved the social event will be similar to the Sixth Form Icebreaker and will be for the Sixth Form students. The company hopes to generate a large profit from this product as there is a good potential in raising revenue from such a service, so let’s hope that everything goes well and we are able to organise it!

Some of the company’s members sold products at the Valentines disco on Friday the 4th February which was organised by TYE 21’s own Michael Knott and other Sixth Form students. This will hopefully allow for some more revenue to come into the business.

Many thanks and regards,

The TYE 21 Team.

BMW TELLS US WHY TO STUDY LANGUAGES

Louise Baxter, Production Analyst at BMW and her team did not arrive at Theale Green on 26th January to promote the new Number 1 BMW Series, but to impress Year 9 students with their answers as to why we study languages.

During their visit students enjoyed taking part in a language quiz, listened to some interesting tales and fully appreciated the doors that Languages open. Louise stressed that “multinational companies such as BMW  really need speakers of European languages other than English, it makes you much more employable.”

Some of the Year 9 comments following the BMW experience included:

“They really made us see the point of learning languages.”

“Are they coming back again soon?”

“Was fur eine fantastiche Stunde!”

BUSINESS STUDIES

The Applied Business GCSE students have been travelling again, this time to “The Connection”, Vodafone’s impressive global head office for 3,500 people near Newbury. We ogled Michael Schumacher’s test F1 Ferrari in the lobby, tested some next generation technology in the Visionarium, and saw Vodafone’s vision for a connected future using electronic paper and bracelet displays. Back to work, we rewarded the Vodafone executives for their time and expertise by asking challenging questions such as “how long can you survive your stupendous financial losses?” (Vodafone owners needn’t worry, they are financially sound, the losses are just accountants’ smoke and mirrors) and “when will you drop Beckham from  your ads?” (Sorry, we promised not to tell anyone the answer!)

Next stop? Watch this space.

ANNUAL FUND

We will be writing shortly to all parents who have not yet contributed to our Annual Fund after half term. We do hope that if you have not responded as yet that you feel able to do so positively!
