WHAT DO YOU THINK OF OUR SCHOOL? CONSULTATION WITH PARENTS

Last year we held a very successful evening when parents joined us to discuss Academic Mentoring Day, parents' evenings and reports. As a result of this we introduced parents' evenings into Years 9 and 11, which were very well received by those who attended.

This year we would like to invite you to a consultation evening to consult with you on our new behaviour strategy, find out what you think about homework and discover what you would like to see on our school website. This will be held on 16th June at 7.30pm in the school hall. We look forward to seeing you then.

If you are not able to join us on the 16th, we are planning to give you an opportunity to tell us what you think about our school online. Supported by West Berkshire, we hope to have a questionnaire for parents available on our website by the end of June which you can complete and send to us. Please watch the website for news of the launch of this. A similar questionnaire is being designed for our students to complete.

SENIOR STUDENT APPOINTMENTS

Congratulations to the four sixth form students who have been appointed as this year's senior students. Nine students were nominated by Heads of House and went through an appointment process, which included making a presentation to staff and governors and a formal interview in the Head's office. The quality of applicants was excellent and we would like to congratulate all nine on their achievements. The successful candidates were:

Head Boy: Joe Alien Head Girl: Kirsty White Deputy Head Boy: Michael Knott Deputv Head Girl: Laura Mvers

VIRTUAL BABIES

Six Year 10 girls recently became mums for the weekend when they each took care of a "virtual baby". The dolls worth £700 each, simulate a 4 month old baby; they need to be fed, changed and comforted and are programmed to cry like a real baby and wake up during the night. The girls experienced this as part of a childcare course, which they are following in partnership with the Youth and Community Service. They were all very relieved to hand the babies back at the end of the weekend and agreed that motherhood had been much more hard work than they had expected!

ATHLETICS

We have had a great turn out for Monday night athletics club this year with an average of 30 pupils turning up from a range of school years.

The track and field season is so far going extremely well. The following people gained 1st, 2nd or 3rd in the Area Athletics Championships:

Daniel Norville- 2nd Long Jump Joel Coakeley - 2nd Shot Put Jacob Felix - 2nd Discus Anthony Deacon - 2nd Javelin Rikki Littlewood - l^t Javelin Kelvin Callender - 1st 200m Mark Apsey - 1st 1500m Natalie Beale - 2nd High Jump Under 15 Girls Relay - 2nd 4 x 100m

All of these pupils have now been selected to compete for West Berkshire in the County Championships on June 11th at Palmer Park. Natalie Beale has also been crowned County Champion in the Pentathlon. All of those who took part were exceptional and put in a great amount of effort but out of over 30 competitors Natalie proved that she was the best all round athlete.

Kelvin Callender has proved that he is an exceptional athlete by gaining the English Schools Qualifying time for the 200m. Well done to all of those that have turned up for training and taken part.
