‘BETRAYAL’
– Staff get in on the Act!
Wednesday 27th and Thursday 28th June see a new and exciting venture from Theale Green Community School. The Incomplete Theatre Company will be performing Harold Pinter’s popular play ‘Betrayal’. The theatre company is the brainchild of Karen Reed, the school’s arts technician and drama teacher Danny Williams, after they realised how expensive and difficult it was becoming for students to see appropriate theatre productions. Theale Green has recently shown its commitment to Community theatre through the ‘Theale Neighbourhood Theatre’ (TNT) and the Community Performance Programme, run by Mr Allan Lindsay. His support for this project has been outstanding and they felt that the opportunity to produce their own work was too good to miss.
"As a drama teacher, I felt that we should be making more positive and practical steps in bring theatre to all." Said Danny. "It also allows us to really go into a play in depth and we can demonstrate to the students just how much work needs to go into producing a piece of practical work. Not only this, but we want all sections of the community to have access to live theatre – hence the venues, prices and play!"
The choice of play was easy. The story follows the lives of three characters, husband and wife Robert and Emma and Robert’s best friend, Jerry whose affair with Emma forms the basis of a play that includes deceit, love, lust and of-course, betrayal. The play works its way backwards through time and so the question is not so much what happens, but why?
"We would obviously encourage people to come and see it" said Karen, "There really is something for everyone."
Betrayal is being performed on 27th June at Theale Green Community School and on Thursday 28th June at 21 South Street Arts Centre, Reading town centre. Both performances start at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost £5 adults and £3 concessions. Tickets for Theale Green are available from the school office (0118) 930 2741 and for 21 South Street from the box office (0118) 960 6060.
