New Timings Next Year

fter discussions with the School Policy Board, there will be a small change to the arrangements for tutoring time from the start of next term.  We are going to make two changes:-

1. To extend the tutor period in the morning by 5 minutes to 20 minutes to allow more effective tutoring and a better start to the day.  The 5 minutes will come from afternoon registration, which  will be carried out in class, so that students move directly to lessons after lunch.

2. To change the frequency of the rolling House periods to once every two weeks, with the     option of additional House periods to be arranged if the need arises. The Heads of House are constructing a programme for each of the year groups and there is the prospect of delivering some of the Personal,    Social and Health Education programme during this time using teams of staff to teach classes.

Our timings of the school day will now run as follows:-

8.30 am - 8.50 am       Registration
8.50 am - 9.50 am   Period 1 9.50 am - 10.50 am   Period 2 10.50 am - 11.10 am   Break 11.10 am - 12.10 pm   Period 3 12.10 pm -  1.10 pm   Period 4 1.10 pm -  2.05 pm    Lunch 2.05 pm -  3.05 pm   Period 5

Parents will note that there is no change to timings at the start and end of school.

All Change at the    Youth Club

We are delighted to welcome Ian Hankinson as the new team leader for the Eastern Area Youth Team.  Kim Poole and Jeannie Tynan have been working hard to keep our youth club running in the absence of a youth leader.  The new Eastern Area Youth Team is being appointed as this newsletter goes to press and Ian will be organising all youth work in our area from a base in

Money promised by sponsors has been recorded by the school Bursar and his team of helpers and we now have the important task of getting this money in so that we can order the equipment.  Over £7,000 has been promised and we are very grateful to parents and all those who supported the event.

Parents... please do ensure that all your child's sponsor money is handed in as soon as possible.

Sixth Form Roundup

Is there a parent, or grandparent perhaps, out there who would like to run the Sixth Form tuck shop as a small business at breaktimes (Mon to Fri, 10.45 to 11.05 am)?  Since Chris stepped down at the beginning of term we have been looking for someone to take over this thriving enterprise.    Interested?  Contact John Owen at the school.  To start in September.

Our best wishes go out to all members of the Upper Sixth for their results on Thursday 17th August.  Senior staff will be on hand to offer advice on the day and for the next few days afterwards.  You should have received   details of the clearing arrangements in the mailing a month ago;  if you did not receive them then a further copy can be ordered from the Head of Sixth Form at the school.  For those Upper Sixth Formers who have not applied for UCAS this year, the entry forms and booklets for 2001 entry are now available in school.  Similarly a very few remaining copies of the Sixth Form group photograph are still available for sale if you forgot.
