Religion and Life from a Christian Perspective

  

Introduction:-  This is a short course GCSE taught in one hour a week, over two years.

The syllabus is as follows:-

  Section 1 – Believing in God

 Belief in God from upbringing

                                 

Belief in God from religious experience:-

            Numinous

            Conversion

            Miracles

            Answered prayers

            Mysticism

 

Belief in God deduced from the purpose evident in the world

                                   

Why some people do not believe in God or are unsure about belief in God:-

            The problem of evil and suffering

            Responses to this problem.

 With reference to modern Britain:-

                        The role of men and women

                        Racial harmony

 

  The contribution of one modern Christian person to racial harmony

Section 5

 

This section will be completed as coursework on Religion and the Media.

This will include:-

 

A study of the variety and range of religious programming on terrestrial TV channels

 

How one religious or moral issue has been dealt with by a TV soap opera

 

A religious theme explored in a film.

 

The coursework should be 1500 words long, the question is set by the exam board and marked internally.

    

These section will not necessarily be taught in this order.
